Chaos erupted in the French parliament as tensions flared when a lawmaker, Rachel Keke of the France Unbowed party, raised a Palestinian flag during a session of government questions TRT World reported.

This incident, occurring just a week after another deputy was temporarily suspended for a similar action, prompted a strong response from Parliament Speaker Yael Braun-Pivet. Braun-Pivet denounced Keke’s gesture and called for sanctions, leading to a temporary suspension of the session.

The display of the Palestinian flag was part of a broader demonstration by Green, Communist, and LFI lawmakers, who adorned themselves in the colors of the Palestinian flag to show solidarity.

This move highlights the ongoing tensions in France, particularly amidst Israel’s conflict with Gaza, which has stirred debate and discourse within the country.

President Emmanuel Macron’s stance on recognizing a Palestinian state has added another layer to the discussion, with calls for such recognition to be made at an opportune moment rather than based solely on emotion.
