Attending an organized community fireworks show is the best way to soak in the festive lights, fire and public health officials say.

Based on the number of public shows this year commemorating Independence Day, it appears that residents are getting the message.

People throughout the Valley should be able to find a show — often free — close by.

For example, the Reedley Chamber of Commerce is holding “Celebrate America” in downtown Reedley from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is free, and fireworks will fill the sky at dusk. There will be live music, food and drink vendors, and children’s train rides.

Lemoore High School’s Band Booster Block Party will start its fireworks show Friday at 8 p.m. The fun begins at 5 p.m. in the old Kmart parking lot.

Selma’s All-American Festival begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Ormond’s Plaza. Organizers say there will be food trucks, a kids’ zone, and live music.

Meanwhile, the Chowchilla Lions Club is waiting until Saturday, July 8, to hold its fireworks show at the fairgrounds.

Freedom Fest, Grizzlies Extravaganza, and Free Show at McLane High

However, most shows will be on Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4. These include Clovis Freedom Fest, the city of Fresno’s free show at McLane Stadium, the annual Fresno Grizzlies Extravaganza, and Sanger’s Fourth of July Spectacular.
