Former NFL players Robert Golden and Dwayne Wright will coach the Best of the West All-Star football game Saturday at Sunnyside High School in southeast Fresno.

Golden, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and later founded Golden Charter Academy in Fresno, will coach the Central Valley team. Wright, who played for the Buffalo Bills and is the head coach at Fresno’s Roosevelt High School, will lead the San Diego team.

Admission is free. Gates will open at 1 p.m. Saturday and kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunnyside High is at 1019 S. Peach Ave.

Special guests will include Mayor Jerry Dyer, who will preside over the coin toss, Fresno State alumni Bernard Berrian, who also played in the NFL, and Marcus McMaryion, who quarterbacked the Bulldogs to a Mountain West title in 2018. Wright also is a Fresno State alum, and Golden graduated from the University of Arizona.

The Best of the West All-Star Game pays tribute to the U.S. Army and its acts of service. The game’s sponsors are the U.S. Army, Mentoring Matters, Hand in Hand Mentoring, and Clovis Veterans Memorial District.
