The end of the Cybertruck may be nigh.
On Friday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on X that “Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.”
According to CNBC, the Cybertruck is made exclusively at the Texas facility. That would denote a marked shift in the electric vehicle manufacturer strategy, pivoting toward the autonomous electric taxi.
Wall Street Journal reports that Tesla sold about 73,000 of the vehicles since it first debuted in 2023. Compare that to the Ford F-Series of trucks, which sold that volume in a month.
Musk billed it at the time as the herald of a new era in electric vehicle technology, touting its hauling power, range, and notoriously, its armored glass and body.
