Horse-drawn carriage rides and roadside sales of toys and food at Candy Cane Lane will face increased enforcement this holiday season, according to the city of Clovis.
In a letter dated Monday to north Clovis residents in the Candy Cane Lane area, the city announced it will step up enforcement of vending regulations and applicable vehicle codes during the upcoming holidays.
The announcement follows feedback from residents at a Sept. 29 neighborhood meeting and through a neighborhood survey.
“During the meeting and in response to the survey, residents emphasized a strong desire for increased enforcement related to vending activity, and the City heard this request clearly,” the city said in its letter.
The letter serves as formal notice that vending activity may result in enforcement action under the Clovis Municipal Code.
Additionally, at residents’ request, the city will install signs reminding visitors and residents of vending regulations and the requirement to obey traffic laws while traveling through Candy Cane Lane.
The city will also continue providing street signs, supplemental trash containers, and street sweeping.
Candy Cane Lane, held in the neighborhood near Peach and Alluvial avenues on Cindy Avenue, is a neighborhood-led holiday display where people can walk or drive through and look at holiday decorations.
It is held annually throughout December.
Candy Cane Lane Popularity Grows
The popularity of Candy Cane Lane has grown over the years, in particular with organizers of Christmas Tree Lane in Fresno canceling walk-only nights due to safety concerns.
The Fig Garden Homeowners Association said crowds could reach 35,000 people and there were aggressive unpermitted vendors and trash often left around.
