Valadao, Denham Forced Out of the Bushes in Re-Election Bids

One of the reasons Republicans Jeff Denham and David Valadao found electoral success was their ability to keep a low national profile.
In the era of Trump, that illusion is gone, writes Jazmine Ulloa of the Los Angeles Times.
“They used to hide in the bushes.” Now Trump “is in the bushes with them, and he is a very noticeable guy.” — Former state lawmaker Dean Florez
Ulloa examines the upcoming primary for Denham of Turlock and Valadao of Hanford. Both men have held their seats in Congress despite being at a party registration disadvantage.Dean Florez may have summed it up best:
“They used to hide in the bushes,” said Florez, a former Democratic state senator and assemblyman who has represented more than half of the Central Valley. Now Trump “is in the bushes with them, and he is a very noticeable guy.”
Democrats continue to be optimistic about unseating these long-standing Republicans, but they may have to change tactics to overcome unsuccessful traits of the past.
