A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into a tree in Visalia, injuring two of the three children riding in her vehicle, police said Thursday.

Officers responded at about 6:22 p.m. to the area of Ben Maddox Way and Walnut Avenue for a reported injury collision, according to the Visalia Police Department.

Investigators said Margarita Rodriguez was driving eastbound on Walnut Avenue with her three children, ages 8, 7, and 2, when she lost control of the vehicle, swerved off the roadway and struck a tree.

The 2-year-old and 8-year-old children were injured in the crash, police said. Their conditions were not released.

Officers determined Rodriguez was under the influence of a stimulant at the time of the collision, police said.

She was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and child endangerment.
