It’s nice to know that amid America’s uber-ugly politics, some people still take the time to do something special.

With construction underway on a new 14-story tower at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, McCarthy Construction is placing two 6-foot-tall Waldo figurines inside the frame for young patients at nearby hospitals to spot, KCRA reports.

“This was just something that we wanted to do for the children and the patients that come into the hospitals every single day,” Anmol Gill, safety manager at McCarthy Construction, told KCRA.

Waldo moves to different spots every couple of days to keep the youngers guessing. Gill added that the construction workers enjoy this act of kindness for young patients.

“Whatever projects we are on, we like to take that initiative of bringing joy and excitement to the communities we impact and serve,” she said.

Waldo Is Visible to Shriners Children’s Patients

Patients in some of the rooms at Shriners Children’s can see Waldo.

“I have been able to spot Waldo, too,” said Shriners Northern California spokesperson Sandra Meyers. “I often will stop in the parking lot and just take a peek in the morning to see if I can find him.”

Shriners opened its first hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, to care for children with polio in 1922. To this day, Shriners provides high-quality specialty medical care to children and families regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status.

KCRA reported that the Waldo idea came from a project manager who had seen similar figures at other construction sites.
