A man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he was found carrying a concealed black powder firearm during a traffic stop.
An officer pulled over a vehicle near Sharon Boulevard and Country Club Drive and made contact with Joshua Buentello, 26, according to the Madera Police Department.
During the stop, the officer discovered Buentello had a black powder derringer concealed in his waistband.
While such firearms may appear antique, authorities noted they are still legally classified as firearms, police said.
In California, a concealed weapons permit is required to carry any firearm in that manner, including black powder or antique-style guns.
Buentello was arrested without incident and booked into the Madera County Jail on suspicion of illegal firearm possession.
Police reminded the public that concealing any type of firearm without the proper permit violates state law.
