Eleven drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI during a checkpoint held Saturday night in Fresno, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.

The DUI checkpoint took place from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at the intersection of Blackstone and Barstow avenues, according to police.

Authorities said a total of 205 vehicles were contacted.

In addition to the DUI arrests, 23 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license or with a suspended or revoked license.

Officials said checkpoint locations are chosen based on data showing a history of DUI-related crashes in the area.

The next DUI enforcement effort will be a saturation patrol scheduled for Saturday, May 24.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, police said.
