Lucid Motors is set to acquire certain facilities in Arizona previously owned by Nikola, according to Engadget.
Nikola, an electric truck maker, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.
The deal, valued at $30 million in cash and non-cash considerations, includes state-of-the-art manufacturing and warehousing buildings, along with specialized equipment.
Lucid plans to integrate more than 300 former Nikola employees into various roles across its Arizona operations, including engineering, software, assembly, and vehicle testing. This acquisition is part of Lucid’s broader expansion strategy in the state.
Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO at Lucid, emphasized the strategic importance of this move, stating, “As we continue our production ramp of Lucid Gravity and prepare for our upcoming midsize platform vehicles, acquiring these assets is an opportunity to strategically expand our manufacturing, warehousing, testing, and development facilities while supporting our local Arizona community.”
The deal is still subject to approval by the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. If approved, Lucid will gain access to Nikola’s battery and environmental testing chambers, machining equipment, and a full-size chassis dynamometer, among other assets.
This acquisition comes as Lucid ramps up production of its electric SUV, Gravity, which launched in 2024. Currently, only the $94,000 Grand Touring trim is available, with plans to start production of the $79,900 Touring model later this year.
