The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run after a woman was found dead on an on-ramp to northbound Highway 99 on Saturday night.

Authorities received a report around 7:50 p.m. of a person lying on the Golden State on-ramp, according to a statement from CHP.
Emergency responders arrived to find a woman dead in the roadway. The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Sylvia Cruz, 53, of Fresno, on Tuesday.
Investigators believe Cruz was struck by multiple vehicles, all of which fled the scene.

Evidence suggests she was walking within the roadway, wearing dark clothing in an area with poor lighting at the time of the collision.
CHP recovered vehicle debris from the scene, indicating that two or three vehicles may have been involved.

The agency is analyzing the evidence as part of its ongoing investigation.
