A Visalia man was arrested early Monday morning after fleeing from a traffic stop and crashing his vehicle, the Visalia Police Department said in a statement.

At about 1:34 a.m., a Visalia police officer attempted to stop Eli Perkins, 31, for failing to maintain his lane near Fairway Street and Caldwell Avenue.

Perkins, however, refused to pull over, leading officers on a brief chase. The pursuit was quickly terminated for public safety reasons.

Moments later, officers located the crashed vehicle at Court Street and Whitendale Avenue.

Perkins fled on foot but was found hiding under a car. Police seized a loaded firearm from inside the vehicle.

Perkins, who had a felony no-bail warrant and a misdemeanor DUI warrant, was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility.

He faces charges of felony evading, resisting arrest, hit-and-run, firearm offenses, and the outstanding warrants.
