A routine response to a hit-and-run in Fresno quickly escalated into a high-speed pursuit, leading to a crash and standoff before two suspects were taken into custody, the CHP said in a statement Tuesday.

Officers began chasing a GMC Yukon linked to a shooting within the city, with Fresno police ground units and a helicopter in pursuit, officials said.
The driver sped through city streets before losing control and crashing into a backhoe at a construction site.

After a tense standoff, officers used less-lethal bean bag rounds to subdue the driver and a passenger.
The coordinated response of multiple law enforcement agencies brought the situation to a safe resolution, authorities said.
