GV Wire will host a forum for the open Fresno City Council District 5 seat on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m.

Candidates Jose Leon Barraza, a Fresno Parks Commission Member; Elizabeth Jonasson Rosas, a Fresno Unified School Board Trustee; and Brandon Vang, a Sanger Unified School Board Trustee, will participate in the forum.

The candidates are vying to succeed Luis Chavez, who won election to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors in November.

The special election is set for March 18.

If no candidate wins a majority, the council must call for a runoff election within 30 days of certification.

David Taub of GV Wire will moderate the event, focusing on each candidate’s vision for District 5 and their plans to address key community issues.

The debate will be live-streamed on GV Wire’s Facebook page, allowing the public to tune in and hear directly from the candidates.

The production is made possible through a collaboration with CMAC, Fresno’s Community Media Access Collaborative.
