Two men were arrested on Sunday after a disturbance and vehicle crash led officers to discover firearms in their possession and a sergeant injured, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to reports of a possible vehicle crash and loud yelling near Dakota and Palm avenues.

Officers found a vehicle and a witness reported that two men had been dropped off nearby.

The men were seen walking eastbound on East Shields Avenue. A sergeant who arrived at the scene attempted to make contact.

While one man complied, the other fled westbound carrying a backpack.

The sergeant pursued the second man on foot, witnessing him drop a gun as he ran. After catching the suspect, the sergeant discovered a second firearm on his person.

According to authorities, the first suspect, identified as a parolee with a violent arrest history, was arrested for multiple firearm charges.

The second man was arrested for firearm possession, resisting arrest, and injuries sustained by the sergeant during the pursuit.

The Fresno PD told GV Wire that the sergeant who took down the suspect during the pursuit twisted his ankle. The name of the sergeant has not been released by the Fresno PD.

Both men were booked into the Fresno County Jail.
