Detectives have arrested five high school students and two adults in connection with a McLane High School area shooting investigation that began on Aug. 21, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The incident involved a dispute between students from McLane and Hoover High School. Four of the suspects are students at McLane and one attends Hoover, according to authorities. The five teens have been booked into juvenile hall on gun-related charges, with some facing additional accessory charges.

Authorities said that search warrants were executed at two Fresno residences on Sept. 10.

At one location, officers recovered two shotguns and two handguns, although none was connected to the parking lot shooting. Jim Vue, 43, was arrested at the scene for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and Richie Vue, 29, was charged with possession of cocaine.

At the second residence, detectives recovered two handguns linked to the teenagers involved in the shooting. Days later, detectives apprehended a 15-year-old McLane student for concealing those firearms.

On Monday, a 14-year-old Hoover High student was arrested after being identified in social media photos holding firearms, leading to charges of illegal possession.

Officials have confirmed that the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute and was not gang-related as authorities previously said.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The investigation was launched following a disturbance involving a large group of McLane High School students. The investigation revealed that a 15-year-old boy used a handgun to pistol-whip another teenager, and a 16-year-old student opened fire as people left the scene.

Several bullets struck a nearby vehicle and restaurant, but no serious injuries were reported. Two customers inside the restaurant narrowly avoided being hit.

Approximately 30 minutes after the shooting, deputies arrested the 16-year-old gunman, identified as wearing all black in the video footage provided by witnesses.

The next day, detectives arrested a 15-year-old McLane student suspected of hiding one of the firearms used in the shooting, although the gun was not immediately recovered.

On Aug. 23, detectives served another search warrant at an apartment, where they arrested a 15-year-old, seen in a video holding a gun, on charges of assault with a semi-automatic firearm. Detectives continue to pursue leads to recover additional firearms and identify any remaining suspects involved.
