The Fresno area California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Friday morning, claiming the life of 41-year-old Luciano Becerra Garcia of Fresno.

The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified Garcia on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 4:45 a.m., CHP communications received a call about the crash on northbound Highway 41, north of Shields Avenue.

According to the authorities, Garcia was riding a bicycle southbound in the northbound No. 1 lane when he was struck by a Chevrolet Impala driven by a 19-year-old man.

The driver of the Chevrolet, traveling in the northbound No. 1 lane, couldn’t avoid the collision, the CHP report stated. The impact propelled the bicyclist into the traffic lanes, where he came to rest, blocking two lanes of traffic.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene, and the driver of the Chevrolet cooperated with investigators. Despite medical efforts, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision involving the bicyclist.
