United Nations human rights experts have accused Israel of conducting a “targeted starvation campaign” in Gaza, resulting in deaths, including children, due to famine reported by Al Jazeera.
Reports of Children Dying From Malnutrition
In a statement released Tuesday by 10 independent UN experts, they described Israel’s actions as “genocidal violence” aggravating a severe humanitarian crisis across Gaza.
The experts allege that Israel’s deliberate policies have led to widespread famine across Gaza.
Reports from Gaza health authorities indicate that at least 33 children have died from malnutrition, primarily in the northern region, which has borne the brunt of Israeli military operations since October.

Israel Says it’s ‘Misinformation’
Israel’s response, communicated through its diplomatic mission to the UN in Geneva, vehemently denied these accusations, dismissing them as “misinformation” and accusing the experts of promoting “Hamas propaganda.”
The concerns raised by the UN experts echo warnings from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, a UN-backed global monitor, which last month highlighted Gaza’s ongoing vulnerability to famine.
Despite recent improvements in humanitarian access, more than 495,000 people—over a fifth of Gaza’s population—are reportedly facing severe food insecurity categorized as “catastrophic” by IPC standards, indicating extreme food scarcity and starvation risks.
In contrast, the Israeli mission in Geneva pointed to a recent IPC assessment suggesting that full-scale famine conditions had not yet materialized, citing increased efforts to facilitate aid distribution across Gaza. It referenced initiatives such as connecting a power line to a Gaza water desalination plant as evidence of ongoing humanitarian commitments.
The escalating crisis has prompted international calls for urgent action to alleviate suffering and prevent further deterioration in Gaza’s humanitarian situation.
