A mother, Nallely Gonzalez-Madueno, 38, from Madera, was booked into Fresno County Jail for felony child endangerment after leaving her 18-month-old toddler in a hot car on Monday afternoon, Clovis police said.

Just after 4:30 p.m., a concerned person called to report an toddler locked in a car in the sun at a parking lot near Willow and Nees avenues near the McDonalds, authorities said.

The caller noted the car was off, the windows were slightly down, and the toddler appeared warm in a car seat.

According to National Weather Service records, it was about 95 degrees at the time.

Officers arrived as Gonzalez-Madueno and an older child returned to the vehicle.

Gonzalez-Madueno was bailed out this morning according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The Toddler Is OK

The toddler had been in the hot car for at least 20 minutes while Gonzalez-Madueno and child ate at a nearby business. Paramedics checked the toddler, who was warm but otherwise healthy, Clovis PD said in a news release.

The toddler and older child were turned over to their father by Child Protective Services.

Be Smart During the Hot Summer

Authorities urge vigilance during the hot Central Valley summer, as car interiors can quickly reach deadly temperatures. Keep an eye on children, the elderly, and pets, ensuring they stay hydrated and limit time outdoors.
