Fresno County Supervisors appointed long-time county employee Sally Gomez to be the county’s top librarian on Tuesday.

Gomez started at the Fresno County Public Library almost 20 years ago, according to a news release from the county. She began as an entry-level librarian, eventually becoming supervising and principal librarian.

In October 2023, she became interim librarian, replacing Raman Bath, who served for four years.

“We’re excited to have Sally Gomez serve in the role of Fresno County Librarian,” said County Administrative Officer Paul Nerland. “She’s passionate about strengthening and marketing (the library system’s) important role throughout the County and approaches every challenge with thoughtful solutions. She will undoubtedly make her mark during her tenure as the County Librarian.”

Gomez Enjoys Mysteries, Thrillers, Non-Fiction

The library operates 34 branches throughout Fresno County. The library not only oversees a collection of books, films, music, magazines, and historical documents, but the library plays host to a variety of events.

Some branches have kids’ clubs, movie nights, STEM events, and more. Study groups can help people with written DMV tests or earn accredited high school diplomas for free.

Gomez received her bachelor’s degree in mass communications and journalism at Fresno State. She received her master’s degree in library information and science from San Jose State.

Gomez enjoys running, and watching cooking and home renovation shows. She reads biographies, memoirs, mysteries, thrillers, and non-fiction.
