Austria joined at least four other European countries in restricting U.S. and Israeli military flights toward Iran, citing neutrality and legal policies, Newsweek reported.
Spain and Italy have barred U.S. aircraft from their airspace or bases, while France and Switzerland are reviewing requests individually or rejecting most transit applications.
Austria’s Defense Ministry confirmed overflights serving a conflict party would be denied.
The moves have drawn criticism from President Donald Trump, who called France “very unhelpful.”
European officials emphasize adherence to neutrality and international law, even as global tensions rise and world leaders meet to discuss reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
