A pedestrian was critically injured Friday night after running into a roadway and being struck by a vehicle, the Visalia Police Department said.

Traffic Unit officers were conducting a DUI saturation detail about 11:38 p.m. when they saw a male pedestrian run into northbound Mooney Boulevard, police said.

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers during the investigation, police said. Officers evaluated the driver and did not suspect impairment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
