July typically is the hottest month in Fresno, but this year August may claim the title as king of the scorchers.

The extended Weather Channel forecast calls for August to blast off with an 11-day streak of triple-digit temperatures.

In addition, beginning Friday, Fresno and surrounding communities can expect a run of days with highs of 103 to 108 degrees.

Thus, the National Weather Service in Hanford is warning that heat-sensitive people will face moderate to major heat risks.

However, expected overnight lows in the upper 60s and low 70s should provide a respite from the heatwave.

Fresno’s all-time high is 115 degrees recorded on July 8, 1905. The city has hit 114 degrees four times, most recently on July 11, 2021.

City of Fresno Cooling Centers

Because NWS is predicting the thermometer will soar to 106 on Saturday, city of Fresno cooling centers will be open to the public noon to 8 p.m.

The cooling center locations are:
