Kern County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 34-year-old man accused of physically assaulting and sexually assaulting a 70-year-old woman at a business in Mojave, authorities said.
Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Mojave and Rosamond substations responded Wednesday to investigate a reported sexual assault in Mojave.
During the investigation, deputies learned the suspect entered a business, physically assaulted the woman and then sexually assaulted her, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video and identified the suspect as Shamari Taylor, 34. About two hours later, deputies located and detained Taylor.
Taylor was booked into the Lerdo facility on charges related to the assault and sexual assault. He is being held without bail pending court, authorities said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for several injuries before being released.
