Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run after an adult man was found with traumatic injuries in the roadway early Thursday morning.
Officers responded about 5:26 a.m. to a welfare check on Academy Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets after a passing motorist reported an unresponsive person lying in the roadway, according to the Sanger Police Department.
Officers and emergency medical personnel provided aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Investigators said the driver left the scene before emergency responders arrived. The collision is being investigated as a fatal hit-and-run.
Academy Avenue near Fifth Street is expected to remain closed for several hours while investigators process the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
