A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was killed Wednesday after being involved in a car accident during an attempted traffic stop, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.

The trooper, identified as Sergio Romero, died in the crash.

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux extended condolences to Romero’s family, friends and colleagues, saying they stand with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the law enforcement community as they grieve the loss.

Officials said Romero’s service and sacrifice will be remembered.
