Uruguay’s national soccer team faced heightened scrutiny upon arriving in the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after sniffer dogs inspected players’ luggage during a roadside stop, according to HITC.
The incident drew widespread criticism on social media, with fans arguing the team was treated unfairly and questioning the country’s handling of international visitors.
The reaction followed reports that Iraq striker Aymen Hussein was detained for nearly seven hours at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and that a team photographer traveling with Iraq was denied entry.
Critics said the searches cast a shadow over the tournament before matches had begun.
