A 26-year-old Visalia man arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday night is facing additional weapons-related charges after police said a parole compliance search uncovered firearms, ammunition and magazines at his residence.
Visalia police officers arrested Bernardino Barcelo shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday on a DUI allegation, according to police.
After his arrest, Barcelo allegedly threatened officers and said he possessed firearms and would assault an officer once released from custody, the Visalia Police Department said.
Based on those statements, officers went to Barcelo’s listed parole residence in the 2500 block of West Delta Avenue and conducted a parole compliance search.
During the search, officers found a .22-caliber rifle, a .22-caliber handgun, ammunition, and multiple magazines, police said.
Authorities said Barcelo, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition and had previously failed to surrender his weapons as required.
Barcelo was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, driving under the influence, and a parole violation.
