A driver suspected of being under the influence crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a head-on crash that left two people hospitalized with moderate to major injuries, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol in Fresno reported Wednesday that the driver of a Hyundai veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a violent collision.
CHP did not immediately report the exact location.
Both drivers were transported to a hospital following the crash, CHP said.
Officials emphasized that impaired driving is a preventable and dangerous choice, calling the incident a painful reminder of the consequences such decisions can have for victims.
“It doesn’t have to happen,” CHP said, urging drivers to plan ahead, avoid getting behind the wheel while impaired and seek sober transportation options.
