The spring weather roller coaster continues as the forecast for Fresno calls for a weekend warm-up followed by the possibility of rain Monday through Wednesday morning.

Also in the forecast is good news for the all-important California snowpack. Up to a foot of snow is expected in the Sierra with snow levels starting at 5,000 feet.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, Fresno will see highs of 83 Saturday and 85 Sunday.

However, the temperatures will drop beginning Monday, with a 30% chance of rain, an expected high of 80, and wind gusts up to 15 mph.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for a high of 71, a 40% chance of rain and possible afternoon thunderstorms, and more 15 mph wind gusts.

CalFire: Prepare for Fire Season Now

In a social media post on Thursday, CalFire said that the unusually warm end to winter has accelerated the drying of vegetation in California’s foothills and mountains. The agency is advising homeowners to begin building fire defenses as soon as possible.

“That process (is) leaving the vegetation with moisture levels far below what is typical for this time of year. Fire activity in California does not follow a predictable schedule, and conditions this year are a reminder that preparation cannot wait,” CalFire said.

CalFire has done preemptive prescribed burns in Fresno County in recent weeks while also extinguishing three grass fires in the Friant area last month.
