Rep. David Valadao said Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the Central Valley, as warnings about immigration enforcement activity circulate on social media and local news outlets report on the operations.

Valadao, who represents California’s 22nd Congressional District, said he contacted DHS regarding the operations and was told federal agents were focusing on individuals with active warrants and known criminal histories.

“I’ve been in contact with the Department of Homeland Security regarding recent immigration enforcement actions in the Central Valley, and they’ve informed my office that these operations are focused on individuals with active warrants and known criminal histories,” Valadao said.

Growing Concern About ICE Activities

The statement comes amid growing attention to immigration enforcement activity across the Central Valley. Social media posts have warned residents about possible ICE operations in their communities, while local media outlets have also reported on immigration enforcement activity in the region.

GV Wire requested comment from DHS regarding the operations but did not receive a response.

Valadao also addressed concerns about the potential impact of the operations on agricultural workers and their families.

“I understand the concerns these operations have raised among families in our communities. Hardworking farmworkers who are simply going to work, providing for their families, and contributing to our agricultural economy should not have to live in fear.”

The congressman’s statement did not specify which Central Valley communities were affected, when the operations began, or how many people, if any, have been detained.

Specific reports circulating on social media have not been independently verified by GV Wire.
