A 41-year-old Fresno man has been sentenced to 14 years to life in state prison, plus an additional consecutive 14-year term, for the attempted murder of a Fresno police officer and assault on a second officer with a semi-automatic firearm, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

Bradley Elmer Nicholson, Sr., was sentenced Thursday by Fresno County Superior Court Judge Raj Singh Badhesha.

Prosecutors said Nicholson previously pleaded no contest on Dec. 30, 2025, to attempted murder of a peace officer while personally using a firearm and assault on a peace officer with a semi-automatic firearm. He also admitted a prior strike conviction and an aggravating factor.

The incident occurred Dec. 7, 2025, during a Post-Release Community Supervision compliance check near Clinton and West avenues, when Nicholson allegedly fired a .380-caliber handgun once toward an officer’s head, striking the top of the officer’s baseball cap. The officer was not injured.

Nicholson later fled and allegedly pointed the weapon at a second officer, according to prosecutors.

He has prior convictions for burglary, auto theft, narcotics possession, identity theft, and fraud.
