The Bakersfield Police Department reported responding to tens of thousands of calls for service in March while making more than 1,000 arrests, according to newly released monthly crime statistics.

Police said the department’s communications center received 58,764 incoming calls during the month, including 24,141 calls to 911.

Officers made 1,069 total arrests, the department said.

Among reported crimes, police documented 149 vehicle thefts, 89 burglaries, and 44 robberies. Authorities also reported 120 aggravated assaults, two homicides, and eight sexual assaults.

In addition, police recorded 193 domestic violence reports and made 61 DUI arrests.

The department noted that all figures are preliminary and subject to change as investigations continue.
