A woman was hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times Saturday night in Hilmar, and a 22-year-old woman was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded about 9:30 p.m. to a residence on Dayton Avenue in Hilmar for a report of a stabbing.

When deputies arrived, they found an adult woman suffering from several stab wounds to her chest and back. The woman was taken to a local hospital and has since been released in stable condition.

Investigators identified the suspect as Alexis Martinez. Authorities said Martinez went to the victim’s home and attempted to fight her over a past dispute.

During the altercation, Martinez allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing, deputies said.

Martinez was later arrested at a residence in the 16600 block of Longview Avenue in Livingston and booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
