Chain controls were in effect Wednesday morning on Interstate 80 over Donner Summit as snow moved through the area, according to Caltrans.

As of 7:45 a.m., eastbound I-80 was under R2 chain restrictions from Cisco Grove to Truckee. Westbound I-80 was under R2 restrictions from Truckee to Nyack.

Under R2 restrictions, chains are required on all vehicles except those with four-wheel or all-wheel drive and snow tires on all four wheels.

Caltrans urged motorists to slow down and be prepared for winter driving conditions. Minimum restrictions also were in place for trucks.
