A Barstow man is accused of DUI and murder after officials say he rear-ended a sedan with a pickup truck in Victorville on Friday, killing a woman and injuring a man.
The deadly wreck was first reported about 4:20 a.m. at Mojave Drive and Sixth Street, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department logs show.
The victims were riding in a Buick Lacrosse that had stopped at the intersection, according to sheriff’s department spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez. The Y-shaped intersection is regulated by stop signs.
“A gray Chevy Colorado, driven by Luis (Eduardo) Nolasco, was traveling eastbound on Mojave and rear ended the Buick,” she said.
A woman riding as a passenger inside the Buick died from her injuries at the scene, officials said. Her identity was not yet released by coroner’s officials Saturday.
A man who had been driving the sedan was hospitalized in unknown condition.
Deputies determined Nolasco, 19, of Barstow was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him following a hospital examination, according to sheriff’s officials and county jail records.
He was booked on suspicion of murder, drunken driving causing injury or death and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Nolasco was being held without bail pending an initial court appearance, which was scheduled Wednesday in the Victorville Branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
