GV Wire, one of California’s most decorated digital news outlets, earned 14 awards in the 2024 California News Publishers Association journalism contest, highlighting its commitment to impactful reporting across a wide range of topics.
The newsroom, led by reporters Nancy Price and David Taub, was recognized for its work in video journalism, local government coverage, labor reporting, and more.

Videographer Jahziel Tello secured top honors in the “Video Journalism-Other” category for his story on the Roosevelt Fishing Club and the positive difference it is making in the Fresno community.
Tello also earned second place in “Video Journalism-News” for his coverage of the Sheriff’s memorial honoring fallen officers. He shared a third-place finish in “Video Journalism-Other” with videographer Eric Martinez for their profile on longtime local photojournalist John Walker.
Senior reporter David Taub won five awards for his in-depth and consistent coverage of breaking news and local government.
He took second place in Breaking News for his story “Former Bitwise CEOs Receive Stiff Federal Prison Sentences.” His report “Planned Fresno Probation Gun Buyback Program Runs Afoul of State Law and SEIU” earned second place in “Labor Reporting.”
He also took second place in “Coverage of Local Government” for his article “Contractor Didn’t ‘Buy American.’ Now, it Owes the City of Fresno,” and third place in the same category for “Fresno Jury Sides With Former Police Chief. How Much Was He Awarded?”
He was also awarded fifth place in “Religion and Faith Writing” for “A Packed Fresno City Hall Witnesses Badhesha’s Historic Moment for Sikhs.”
Multimedia journalist Nancy Price also earned five awards.
Her in-depth reporting on regional solar development won second place for the “Inside Look at Fresno County Westside Solar Plan to Power 9 Million Homes.” She won third place in Writing for “Fresno Schools Building Family Leadership Through Gourmet Cooking?” and fourth place in “Labor Reporting” for “Unions Aren’t Just Bankrolling Local Campaigns. They’ve Got a Candidate This Year.”
Her work in “Coverage of Youth/Education” earned third place for “CA Kids Need to Read Better. A New Fresno State Program Is Helping Their Teachers,” and she received third place in “Local Election Coverage” for “Fresno Unified Taxpayers Are Paying for 5 Bond Measures Already. When Will Those Taxes Expire?”
Anthony W. Haddad, who recently launched his column series “The Millennial View,” earned his first journalism award with one of his debut pieces. He won fifth place in the “Columns” category for “The Rising Cost of Living: How Inflation and Stagnant Wages Squeeze Millennial Budgets.”
