Despite the return of standout guard Zaon Collins from injury, the Fresno State men’s basketball team lost two games at the Acrisure Holiday Invitational in Palm Desert.

Collins scored 27 points on Tuesday as the Bulldogs fell to future Pac-12 rival Washington State 84-73 and tallied 10 points in Fresno State’s 86-81 double-overtime loss to Cal Baptist on Wednesday.

The two dropped the Bulldogs to 3-4 in nonconference action. They are now preparing to open Mountain West play against San Diego State on Wednesday.

The Aztecs, a Sweet 16 team last season, are 3-2 and face sixth-ranked Houston on Saturday. This year’s team boasts a 71-53 victory at Creighton, which was ranked No. 21 at the time.

Augillard Scores 26 Against Cal Baptist

Amar Augillard had a team-high 26 points and eight rebounds in the loss to Cal Baptist. In addition, Elijah Price posted his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Fresno State took a two-point lead with 2:39 to go in the second overtime on Augillard’s layup but didn’t score the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs missed their first 11 attempts from 3-point range and finished with just seven assists compared to 15 turnovers.
