Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz’s from the centrist party proposed on Thursday to dissolve the country’s parliament, Reuters reported.
Gantz’s call for dissolution signaled the growing disdain for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government and Netanyahu’s prosecution of the war against Hamas.
Following an ultimatum by Gantz in May demanding a post-war plan for Gaza by June 8 from Netanyahu, tensions have escalated within the coalition.
However, Israel’s right-wing party, Likud, and its allies can maintain a majority without Gantz. He joined Netanyahu’s government after the Oct. 7 attack, but strains continue to emerge as the conflict persists amid international criticism from Israeli allies such as the United States and France.

Pnina Tameno, a lawmaker from Gantz’s National Unity party, emphasized the need to restore trust and establish a unified government to address security, economic, and societal challenges.
In contrast, Likud argues that dissolving the government would hinder the war effort and jeopardize hostage release efforts.
