A $250,000 donation from New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr and retired NFL quarterback David Carr will go to Valley Children’s Hospital and its endowment.

The gift is designated for the hospital’s Guilds Center for Community Health, according to a hospital news release.

“The Central Valley is home for Derek and me, and we want to make sure that this region continues to offer every child with opportunities for a bright future,” said David Carr, an NFL network analyst who, like Derek, is a longtime supporter of the hospital.

“Both Derek and I have seen first-hand what Valley Children’s has done for our own children and through insightful discussions with President and CEO Todd Suntrapak, we were inspired by the work the Guilds are doing and the impact the Guilds Center for Community Health has on children and their families beyond the walls of the hospital.”

What Are the Valley Children’s Guilds?

The Guilds Center supports children’s health beyond the hospital, addressing social determinants such as physical environment, health behaviors, and economic status.

The Guilds are a group of organizations that raise money for the hospital — more than $35 million since their initial work to fund Valley Children’s creation in 1949.

“We are immensely grateful to David and Derek for their generous donation to the Guilds of Valley Children’s, who, like them, are a special part of our network,” said Suntrapak. “David and Derek’s support of the Guilds and the Guilds Center for Community Health will further strengthen our ability to bridge the gap between clinical care and community health for children and families across the Central Valley.”

Said Marla McClaskey, chair of the Guilds Coordinating Council: This gift will help the Guilds exceed their $5 million commitment in establishing the Guilds Center for Community Health Endowment. The Carr brothers have always been gracious with their time and resources, and we are thankful for them.”
