Two Fresno media outlets have recently hired new leaders.
Nexstar-owned KSEE24 (NBC)/CBS47 has hired a news director from Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Steven Shaw, who worked at Nexstar’s WTAJ-TV since 2020, is heading westward. He previously worked as an assistant news director at WOWK-TV in Charleston, West Virginia — also a Nexstar station — and executive producer at KIVI/KNIN in Boise, Idaho.
Shaw replaces Lisa Burger, who left for the Nexstar-owned Fox affiliate in Sacramento last December.
Fresno Bee Finds New Leader
The Fresno Bee has a new senior editor, the newspaper equivalent of a news director.
Christopher Kirkpatrick most recently worked as a freelance editor for New York City-based SmartNews. He also has management experience at Consumer Reports, the Detroit Free Press, and the Charlotte Observer.
He replaces Joe Kieta. The Bee reported that Kieta’s last day was Friday, June 9. Meanwhile, longtime Bee editor John Rich, a stalwart of the newsroom for nearly four decades, also retired last Friday.
Much respect to the great John Rich, who was metro editor when I was front page copyeditor at The Fresno Bee. John had the best instincts of any editor I worked with, and he seemed to follow everything from global politics to junior high sports. Absolute king of curiosity. https://t.co/byrqaV7hWK

ABC 30 Wins News Emmys
ABC 30 “Action News Live at Eleven” won a news Emmy in the medium market category. The station won for its coverage of the Oak Fire.
The ceremony took place on June 3 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. The Fresno media market competes with nine markets in northern California (the Oregon border through Fresno), Hawaii, and Reno.
ABC 30 also won for a news special “A Critical State of Mind.”
So so proud of the Action News weekend team for winning Best Evening Newscast at @EmmySFTV last night. Honored to be part of Central California’s #1 News Team! #abc30insider pic.twitter.com/1WxC38AaYw

Carmen Heard From Valley to Coast
B95 (KBOS 94.9) morning show host Carmen will now also be heard in Monterey.
She will now pick up the afternoon shift at 102.5 KDON in Monterey, media publication All Access reported.
Singularly-named Carmen will continue with the CK & Carmen morning show on B95, as well as a midday shift. She remains in Fresno.
Most DJs can “track” or record from any studio.
iHeartMedia owns both stations.
Clovis’ Scott Is New Seahawks Preseason Voice
Clovis High alum Kate Scott added another job to her sportscasting resume — play-by-play voice for Seattle Seahawks preseason games, the team announced.
Scott calls basketball games on TV for the Philadelphia 76ers. Her resume also includes games on the Pac-12 Network, the Olympics on the NBC networks, and co-hosting a radio talk show on KNBR in San Francisco.
She credits Raiders preseason broadcaster Beth Mowins — who also calls and reports on various sports for ESPN and CBS — as a role model.
This will not be the first call of the NFL for Scott. She also called preseason radio games for the 49ers in 2016.
“I know that if I do well in every job that I’ve had at this point, that it will help open ears and minds of fans who maybe weren’t sure a woman could do this, of people who are doing the hiring, who maybe weren’t sure that a woman could do this, and also inspire the next generation to have somebody they can look to who’s doing this and doing it well so they can say, ‘OK, well if Kate’s doing it, maybe I can do this too,” Scott said in the news release.
