1980s hitmaker Rick Springfield has announced he is hitting the road this summer for performances in 26 cities, including Fresno.
The singer-songwriter behind “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk To Strangers” and other radio favorites will launch his “I Want My 80s Tour” on August 4 in Youngstown, Ohio. It will conclude with a swing through California including performances in Los Angeles and Bakersfield, before wrapping up at Warnors Theatre in downtown Fresno on September 17.
Springfield is scheduled to be joined in Fresno by The Hooters and Tommy Tutone. He’ll also share the stage with Paul Young and The Tubes during other stops.
The Australian-born musician scored a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal in 1982Â for “Jessie’s Girl,” which spent two weeks at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Springfield later received Grammy nominations for his singles “Don’t Talk To Strangers,” “I Get Excited” and “Affair of the Heart.”
Since his 80s heyday, Springfield has continued to write and perform music, pursue acting opportunities, and has written two books including a personal memoir titled “Late, Late at Night.”
In 2021, Springfield began hosting a weekly show on SiriusXM, playing songs and sharing stories from the 80s.
Tickets for the “I Want My 80s Tour” go on sale May 5.
