Opening up its second Central Valley location, Marco’s Pizza said it’s meeting local demand.

“People were saying, Hey, when are you guys going to open the location out here?” said general manager Rene Toribio. “We have a lot of customers that come from the city and I think that just says a lot because they’re willing to drive all the way over here. And I think this second location gives us a better opportunity to go with all the customers.”

Michael Caldwell, the local franchisee of the Ohio-based pizza chain recently opened its second location in Clovis — a carryout-only shop. They are the only two Marco’s Pizzas in the Central Valley.

The new location —  865 N. Willow Avenue, Suite 102, north of Alluvial Avenue in Clovis — is in a relatively new shopping center. A Dutch Bros. coffee shop next door is under construction.

Pizzas and More

Toribio says the pizzeria is known for its deluxe — pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and onion ($20.99 for a medium) — and Pepperoni Magnifico — two types of pepperoni with three kinds of cheese ($19.99 for a medium).

“It just adds a little bit of everything,” Toribio said of the deluxe.

Marco’s Pizza also offers subs, sides like cheesy bread, and pizza bowls.

“(Pizza bowls are) a crustless pizza,” Toribio said. “We have it in the sauce, all the toppings, whatever you want, but just no crust. A lot of people use it for keto and all that good stuff.”

Keto is a diet for those who avoid carbohydrates, nearly impossible to miss in a normal pizza.

The new Marco’s Pizza location offers delivery for a $4.75 fee to a limited area to north Clovis and northeast Fresno. Other services like DoorDash and Uber Eats will deliver soon as well.

The new location employs 16 people.

Tales of Unusual Deliveries

Toribio started with the local Marco’s Pizza when it opened its location at Herndon and Armstrong avenues three years ago. He worked his way up from driver to general manager.

His most unusual delivery story? A post-wedding pizza.

“One time there was a party. I guess they just came back from a wedding and they were a little buzzed already. They tell me, Yeah, go ahead and leave it, walk it in to the table. I walked it in and he tipped me like $20 because he was already drunk. And I’m like, Hey, that’s good,” Toribio said.

The most pizzas delivered at once? 450 for a school fundraiser event.
