Taggers have left a giant mark in downtown Fresno.

The city of Fresno graffiti team is not quite sure how to clean up the tagging on the side of the Spiral Garage, at the corner of Fulton and Inyo streets.

The city would need a boom crane to remove it. The problem, city spokeswoman Sontaya Rose says, is the city has no qualified operators on staff.

“We are trying to figure out the best method to get it removed,” she said Thursday.

Fresno City Councilman Miguel Arias says the graffiti has been up for at least a month. He awaits a timetable for removal.

A New Method in Tagging

Rose guesses that the taggers climbed on top of the abandoned Gottschalks building next door and used a Super Soaker to paint the exterior brick wall of an elevator shaft.

The city owns both properties. The long-empty Gottschalks building is boarded up.

The city is seeing more graffiti in hard-to-reach areas, Rose said.
