Citing improved conditions, Pacific Gas & Electric canceled plans to turn off power to Central California customers Monday to prevent the risk of wildfires being ignited in windy, dry weather.
About 8,500 customers in Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Tulare and Tuolumne counties were notified they would not be subjected to a public safety power shutoff, the utility said. Originally, power cuts were considered for about 132,000 customers.
Southern California Edison cut power to 5,031 customers in Kern, Los Angeles and Riverside counties and was considering cuts to another 157,620 customers in those counties as well as Orange, San Bernardino, Tulare and Ventura counties.
San Diego Gas & Electric had no cuts underway early Monday but said 50,483 customers might have power shut off.
Winds were expected to weaken Monday afternoon in the San Francisco Bay Area and strengthen during the evening in Southern California.
