With Congress in recess, TJ Cox sat down with GV Wire to talk about his first year in the House of Representatives and his upcoming 2020 reelection bid.
Cox, a Fresno Democrat, will face David Valadao, the Hanford dairyman and Republican he narrowly defeated in 2018.

The Impeachment Question

The potential impeachment of President Donald Trump is top of mind for elected officials and voters across the nation.
“Nobody has gone to Congress to impeach this president. … ” Cox says. “We have to make sure we do an investigation and see where that investigation takes us. Let the facts dictate our decision.”

Priorities, SB 1, Valadao Rematch, and Proudest Moment

In the video at the top of this story, Cox answers questions on:
— His congressional priorities (at the 45-second timestamp)
— Gov. Gavin Newsom’s veto of SB 1, which was an attempt to dodge Trump administration rollbacks on environmental and labor laws (1:07)
— His CA-21 rematch against Valadao (1:26)
— His proudest moment in Congress: Passage of H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019 that now is in the Senate (1:50)
“I looked up in the gallery and there were young men and women from the district with tears (of joy) in their eyes,” Cox said.
