In a recent series of drone and rocket attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria, 24 American service members were injured, according to U.S. Central Command. The attacks, which took place on October 18, targeted the al-Tanf Garrison in Syria and the al-Asad Airbase in Iraq. Despite the injuries, all personnel have since returned to duty and no significant damage was reported to the base infrastructure.
The Pentagon had previously confirmed the attacks but did not disclose the number of casualties. The recent revelation of injuries comes amidst a surge in attacks against U.S. forces in the region, with 13 incidents reported within a week. While there is no concrete evidence linking Iran to these attacks, Defense Department officials have suggested that Tehran and its proxies may be involved.
These escalated attacks occur in the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel, raising concerns among U.S. officials that Iran and its allied groups may exploit the situation to further destabilize the region.
