Billionaire Mike Bloomberg is investing $250 million to establish 10 healthcare-focused high schools across the U.S., including one in Dallas.
The initiative will see Baylor Scott & White Health and Uplift Education, a public charter school system, transform West Dallas’ Uplift Heights Preparatory into a healthcare-centric campus. A health science pathway will also be established at Uplift Grand Preparatory in Grand Prairie.
The partnership will receive approximately $14.6 million from Bloomberg’s fund to implement its programs. The initiative aims to provide students with training, credentials, and experience in various healthcare fields, to have students work with partner healthcare providers immediately after graduation.
Leaders from Baylor Scott & White and Uplift said in a joint statement, “These innovative programs … have the potential to not only change the trajectory of young lives but the economic health of families and neighborhoods we serve.”
