A section of Giddings Street in downtown Visalia will close Monday, Aug. 11, as work begins on the Mill Creek Culvert Replacement Project, city officials announced.

The closure will affect south Giddings Street between Mineral King Avenue and Main Street.

Detour routes will be posted, and access to nearby properties will be maintained where possible, according to the city of Visalia.

Big Upgrades for Giddings Street

The infrastructure project includes the demolition and replacement of the Mill Creek culvert, which channels water beneath the roadway.

Additional improvements include pedestrian-activated flashing beacons, a new crosswalk, street lighting, electrical upgrades, and the installation of a new 12-inch water main.

The entire stretch of Giddings Street in the project zone will also be repaved.

“We encourage the public to follow the posted detour signs, give themselves extra travel time, and slow down when driving through the construction area,” said assistant city engineer Bryce Nagel.

The project, which aims to improve drainage, pedestrian safety, and utility services in the area, is being carried out by Dawson-Mauldin Construction and is scheduled for completion by mid-December.
